Become an Everyday Peacebuilder

Everyday peacebuilders participating in community discussions

Becoming an Everyday Peacebuilder is the basic work of Beyond War participants--becoming congruent in our own lives with the Beyond War principles and practices.  We work together to learn to LIVE beyond war.  Creating a grass roots presence of everyday peacebuilders around the world will create the force that moves the world beyond war.

The Beyond War Everyday Peacebuilders Program is the core of Beyond War’s educational program. The program is developing a series of ever deepening courses/experiences to help people integrate the beyond war principles and practices in their lives. Local groups and chapters offer the courses.  Most are designed to be easily facilitated or to have participants share the facilitation.

Participants in the Everyday Peacebuilder Program apply their skills in their own families, work places, and communities. Those who want to volunteer with Beyond War assist in facilitating courses and discussions, hosting or supporting the courses, working on materials and curricula development, or they might work on other Beyond War projects at either the national or local chapter level, putting the principles into practice in working together to accomplish a goal.

To participate in a course, or to initiate one in your community, contact your local chapter, or contact us directly at the international office.  Current courses are described below, and will soon be downloadable from this site.

Introduction to Everyday Peacebuilding:
A Challenge to Change our Thinking About War and Conflict
This is a 4-5 week course based on the book, Living Beyond War.  It reviews all of the principles, engages participants in interactive exercises, and includes illustrative video clips that provoke deeper discussions.

Beyond War Presents Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream
This is a 4 - 6 hour introductory course, which can be done in one day or in two evenings.  In cooperation with Awakening the Dreamer, a project of the Pachamama Foundation, Beyond War is offering this Symposium with the specific focus of how the new dream can and must include the vision of a world without war.  The Symposium is a transformative educational experience that empowers participants to respond to humanity’s current situation with action and informed, grounded optimism about our future. College Curriculum:  A Challenge to Change our Thinking About War
This is a course currently being offered at Portland State University as a senior interdisciplinary capstone course for 6 credit hours.  It is designed for a 10 week quarter.  The instructor is happy to share the syllabus and work with others to adapt the course for other college settings.
