Beyond War Award

Award

The Beyond War Award is given to a person or organization that has contributed significantly to building a world beyond war. Past recipients of the Beyond War Award include the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, Presidents Reagan and Gorbachev for their mutual efforts to end the cold war, the Contadora Peace Process in Central America, led by former Costa Rican president Oscar Arias, and the United States Peace Corps.

Created by Steuben Glass, the Beyond War Award is a square column of polished crystal that measures three inches on each side and is fourteen inches tall. Delicately engraved on three surfaces of the column are the continents of the world. On the front surface a half-sphere, deeply recessed into the glass, serves as a lens to capture the images of the continents and transform them into one unified whole.

On all four sides at the base of the column, representing the North, South, East and West, are engraved the words "A WORLD WITHOUT WAR".
