Board of Directors
ROBERT DODGE, M.D.
Bob is a family practice physician in Ventura, California. Active in the peace movement since his college days at the University of Colorado, Boulder, Bob was on a Beyond War team in the 80s. Since 1985, he has been the president of Ventura County Physicians for Social Responsibility and is the cofounder and Co-Chair of Citizens for Peaceful Resolutions (CPR). CPR, a grass roots coalition, was founded in 2002 in response to the U.S. Nuclear Posture Review doctrine. A firm believer that the individual can make a difference—Bob is the father of three sons and is married to Joan Dodge, a school counselor.
ELAINE HALLMARK, J.D. - Board President
Elaine is the Director of the Oregon Consensus Program at the Hatfield School of Government at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon (2003-present). She has been the principal and senior mediator of Confluence Northwest and Hallmark Pacific Group since 1988. Past Chair of the Oregon Dispute Resolution Commission, Elaine has received numerous awards including the Oregon State Bar Association Sidney Lezak Award of Merit for Outstanding Achievement in Appropriate Dispute Resolution, Lewis and Clark Law School Outstanding Environmental Alumni Award and the Spirit of Portland Award for her volunteer efforts with the Portland Neighborhood Mediation Center. Elaine and her husband Bill were founders of Beyond War in Palo Alto, California in 1982 and were both very active in the 80s and 90’s in Portland, Oregon.
KEN TRUEBA
Ken Trueba has a distinguished career as an electronics development engineer and is listed as the inventor of more than 40 US patents. He has also owned and operated an alternative transportation business called EcoCycle, which designed human-powered tricycles enabling many handicapped riders to ride effortlessly. Ken has served as president of Crossroads International, an organization that hosts foreign students as they arrive at Oregon State University, welcomes them to the community and provides them with assistance wherever needed. He has been actively involved in the Sister Cities Association which has built relations between Corvallis, Oregon and Uzhgorod, Ukraine, including serving as President of the organization in 1991-1992. The association has sent medical supplies to Uzhgorod and has sponsored many student and professional exchanges, in addition to adopting the care and upkeep of a local orphanage. He has traveled to Uzhgorod to install a modem for the establishment of e-mail between the sister cities and to help set up a Zonta Club there. He and his wife Carol were very active in Beyond War in the 80s and serve on a Beyond War team in their hometown, Corvallis, Oregon.
WINSLOW MYERS - Board Secretary
After 40 years of teaching History of Art and Studio Art in various schools and colleges, including Bancroft School, the Rhode Island School of Design, Clark University, and Assumption College, Winslow Myers lives in the Boston area and continues to paint. He exhibits his paintings through Yvette Torres Fine Arts, Rockland, ME and on his art website, www.winslowmyers.com. From 1985 to 1995, Winslow coordinated Beyond War in Central Massachusetts and led numerous seminars and courses introducing people to the challenge of change. His book on the philosophy of Beyond War, "Living Beyond War: A Citizen's Guide," was published by Orbis Books in April 2009.
MARTIN JONES, M.D.
Martin Jones has practiced Internal Medicine in Eugene, Oregon for the last 30 years. He has worked with local and state medical societies, as well as other community coalitions, to promote community health and safety, social justice and peace. Martin has been involved in the design of peace seminars and lengthy mediation projects to help resolve community conflicts. These experiences have convinced him of the power of a small group of committed citizens to effect social change. In 1997, Martin was chosen Oregon Physician Citizen of the Year. He enjoys piano playing and music of all kinds, hiking, and spending time with his family and friends.

DICK SCHUBERT - Treasurer
Dick Schubert is a scientist and he has spent his career in the clinical chemistry, pharmaceutical, high tech, and wood products world. His career encompassed research and development, high throughput manufacturing, and company governance.
While living in the Philadelphia area he studied about peacemakers Albert Schweitzer, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and Mother Teresa with the minister Homer Jack, who had worked with each of them or their peacemaking foundations. He was Treasurer of the Eugene nonprofit, Northwest Youth Corp for 5 years.
Dick and his wife Sue enjoy being close to their daughter Stacey and granddaughter Catania, exploring the outdoors, and traveling to visit friends around the world.
Voting Members
Beyond War is a membership organization open to all who commit to the guiding principles and core practices which we share and which make us a community.
Among the membership, a smaller group of Voting Members has the legal responsibility under our bylaws to elect our Board of Directors. This ensures that the Board of Directors, which has legal responsibility for governing the organization, is made up by people with a proven dedication to Beyond War and its vision and values.
WILLIAM L. HALLMARK, J.D.
Bill is a retired Portland, Oregon insurance defense attorney. He also has a background in international affairs based upon his political science education and his work at the CIA in the 60's. Through his legal practice Bill became familiar with conflict resolution techniques. His involvement in Beyond War in the 80's taught him the need to apply these techniques to all levels of conflict. Bill and his wife, Elaine, are avid travelers. In traveling to foreign lands, they have come to understand the value of honoring differences and exploring the assumptions on which differences are based. These experiences have combined to make Bill a dedicated advocate of the Beyond War principles and core practices.
LEONORA PERRON
Leonora was instrumental in organizing and establishing Beyond War 80’s in Oregon and Washington, traveling throughout the northwest recruiting, giving presentations and leading educational seminars. She served as a Beyond War International Ambassador to Mexico, coordinated their downlink with the five continent “Space Bridge” teleconference and presented the award to President de la Madrid at the ceremony. She has actively participated in Habitat for Humanity International, building housing in a black township in South Africa, and establishing connections with peace organizations there. Prior to Beyond War, Leonora was a primary founder and Chairman of Creative Initiative Foundation in Oregon, an educational organization offering courses and seminars about personal growth, relationships, and spirituality. After graduating from University of Oregon and Portland State University with a Masters degree in Art and Education, Leonora taught Art in high school and college for for 10 years, then changed her focus to working for social and cultural change. Current joys are blowing glass and practicing Qigong.
ANNE BATZER
Anne has pursued a lifelong interest in nonviolence at both the global and the personal level. In 1988 she traveled with a Beyond War national task force to the former Soviet Union, spending time dialoging with citizens in Russia and Siberia. Trained in mediation and conflict resolution, Anne volunteered for many years for Mediation Works, an alternative dispute resolution center in Medford, Oregon. Periodically, she travels to Kenya to work for the Makena Children's Foundation, an educational organization founded by another Beyond War member. Retired from a career in Early Childhood Special Education, Anne enjoys writing, exploring the Oregon wilderness with her two granddaughters, and witnessing the interplay of ideas at Beyond War discussion groups.
Directors Martin Jones and Robert Dodge are also Voting Members.
