Action Initiatives

Current issue and project teams authorized by the Beyond War Board of Directors are listed below. Please look for this information to be updated often with new team listings.

We also have several other project teams in the process of forming around these interests:

We also show several other exciting action initiatives below that have not yet moved to form teams.

University Credit Course

Seniors at Portland State University receive six college credits when they successfully complete a class developed and taught by one Beyond War team. Required reading includes The Third Side by William Ury, Fist, Stick, Knife, Gun by Geoffrey Canada, the Iraq Study Group Report and the Beyond War Study Series. The curriculum provides an overview of Beyond War and addresses the concepts of paradigm shift, war is obsolete, we are one on this planet, and the personal and societal implications of “the means are the ends in the making.”

Learning Nonviolent Communication Skills

Several Beyond War teams are improving their listening and dialoguing skills to give themselves competence and confidence in talking with others. Nonviolent communication skills allow us to find common ground by accepting competing points of view as ideas that need to be explored and tested.

Join By Region

In addition to the myriad initiative-based Teams, you can join based upon your city or region.  Action Teams have access to Beyond War’s excellent educational resources and lively, interactive network. Personal contact and support from the international Beyond War office connects all those working in the movement, decreasing feelings of isolation, stimulating creativity and inspiring hope.
