Climate Change and Beyond War

 Lessons from Copenhagen

As our comprehension of the complexity of global climate change increases, and the reality of the hair raising resulting effects on all aspects of life starts to register, the role of BW becomes inescapable. We must become proactive in defusing hot spots, addressing conflicts before they escalate, and in building alternatives to the easy momentum of business as usual and our reliance on war.

Elaine and Bill Hallmark held official observer status at the UN Conference on Climate Change in Copenhagen in December 2009 as part of the NGO delegation with Mediators Beyond Borders. Together they have developed a presentation based on their experiences and the insights they have gleaned from the efforts to craft an appropriate international strategy to address the critical issues related to climate change.

Their presentation: "Climate Change and Beyond War: Lessons from Copenhagen", is a personal account of their experience at the UN Conference in Copenhagen and the pre-conference meetings in Barcelona, and it offers their valuable insights and conclusions about what we must do.

Please contact us with your interest, questions and input on how to engage in moving the world beyond the stalemate over climate change. What kind of system could deal with the present and future climate related issues without resorting to war?

The presentation has been videotaped and is available for further use.
