Conflict is inevitable. War is not.

The Future and You

When I first started thinking about a world without war I was a lot younger, and had just returned from a year's involvement in my generation's war.   After that year I was well aware of the damage done by war to those who are in combat, and those whose country is the battleground, but concluded that war was just a part of human nature, and thus was bound to happen.

The book "Living Beyond War", and discussions with thoughtful friends prior to reading the book, have changed my views...yes, we humans have a dark side, but we have free will and a good side!  We can choose to live in ways that are predominantly on the bright side.  We are human, and will not always succeed, but conflict does not have to lead to violence.  Further, I don't believe we can keep on the way we have been going, in terms of war, social justice, equitable distribution of our planet's limited resources in the face of growing population, and simple kindness to one another.  The world we will present to the children of our children's children will not be a world we would want for them if we do.  I don't think we should do what I did in 1968 and conclude "There is nothing I can do!".

What do you think?
