Current issue and project teams authorized by the Beyond War Board of Directors are listed below. Please look for this information to be updated often with new team listings.
We also have several other project teams in the process of forming around these interests:
We also show several other exciting action initiatives below that have not yet moved to form teams.
University Credit Course
Seniors at Portland State University receive six college
credits when they successfully complete a class
developed and taught by one Beyond War team. Required
reading includes The Third Side by William Ury, Fist,
Stick, Knife, Gun by Geoffrey Canada, the Iraq Study
Group Report and the Beyond War Study Series. The
curriculum provides an overview of Beyond War and
addresses the concepts of paradigm shift, war is
obsolete, we are one on this planet, and the personal
and societal implications of “the means are the ends in
the making.”
Educating about the Health Effects of War
In collaboration with Physicians for Social
Responsibility, one Eugene, OR Beyond War team developed
a PowerPoint presentation that outlined the health
effects of war. It also presented examples of effective
responses other than war that peoples and nations can
choose. Team members took turns giving this presentation
to community groups.
Presidential Candidate Questions
Our Ventura, CA team has put together a list of questions to ask presidential candidates. We can all use election events to get our message out! But these questions are not just for presidential candidates. You can use these to write letters to candidates, letters to the editor and op-ed pieces; to ask at town hall meetings, to submit to debates and other ways. Use them for House and Senate candidates too. Email us at beyondwar@beyondwar.org for a copy.
Learning Nonviolent Communication Skills
Several Beyond War teams are improving their listening
and dialoguing skills to give themselves competence and
confidence in talking with others. Nonviolent
communication skills allow us to find common ground by
accepting competing points of view as ideas that need to
be explored and tested.
Public Service Announcement Billboard
Driving down a busy highway, you see a beautiful picture
of the earth from space, with a message of “We Are One
On This Planet” and “www.beyondwar.org” with a free DVD
offer and our phone number. Think you would notice it?
And click or call? Some Action Teams are exploring test
markets and funding for this project.
